In past issue sof the Scoop, the Acrostic poem on the front page had been created by a Media club member. WE decided to give the younger children a chance to have their poem placed on the front page. The response was great and we decided to add some of the poems to this website. Click on the link below to get to the Acrostic page.

THE MAN BEHIND D.A.R.E. by M. Murphy
On Thursday, April 10, 2007, our fifth graders graduated from a nine week D.A.R.E program to further help them say no to drugs and alcohol. The man behind the scenes who helps the fifth graders learn so much about drug and alcohol prevention is Officer Rob Jensen. He has been teaching D.A.R.E for eleven years, and every year brings information to another group of fifth graders. We are fortunate to have someone with Officer Jensen’s expertise to guide our students on the right path. Officer Jensen had to go through a two week course in order to become a D.A.R.E instructor, and he said it was the hardest training he has had in law enforcement.
I recently had a chance to sit down with Officer Jensen and interview him about his experiences with D.A.R.E. When asked what his favorite thing to teach about D.A.R.E he responded, “I love to teach how to handle peer pressure. This is because you have peer pressure your whole life and this is something you can always use.” Officer Jensen has seen a large impact of the D.A.R.E program on students as they get older. He has seen a great relationship built between kids and law enforcement. Another impact he has seen is the knowledge students have gained about the harmful effects of drugs which they can use later to help them stay away from drugs and resist peer pressure.
Besides fifth grade D.A.R.E, Officer Jensen does a two week D.A.R.E program for seventh grade, a bicycle safety program, and a bullying program. Officer Jensen is not only an excellent resource person, but also a role model to our students and a good friend.
